Tutoring
Frequency: weekly one hour classes
Schools we are working with: Bandevi Basic School, Shree Bajrayogini English Secondary school, Shila Devi School, Dicky Tsering Home
These sessions have started since October 2024 and are currently still running as some of the newer schools (Shila Devi, Dicky Tsering) have joined our program.
There is a committee in charge of creating content that is being learned by the Nepali students through slides and presentations, tailored to each class’ level.
Our zoom online sessions with Nepali schools focus on building confidence and fluency through conversation-based classes on modern and various real-life topics, as well as literacy, grammar, and vocabulary (depending on the students’ current level). These classes are fully student-led and run, and usually are one hour a week per class. The tutor to student ratio is typically 2:5 ~ 2:7.
Bandevi Basic School: This is a government school. The students are around 12 years old. The class typically has 16 students, and these students are able to follow sentence structures with detail and explanation. Their speaking and listening is around the standard American grade 1-2 level, and their literacy is around the standard American grade 2-3 level. Classes are weekly on Sundays.
Shree Bajrayogini School: This school is a private institution. The students are in high school and speak competent English. Our objective with them is to learn more about Nepal’s life/culture and how our lives differ, obtaining local Nepalese opinions about anything to better understand Nepal’s society. Classes are weekly on Sundays.
Shila Devi School: This is a government school, and the students are around 12 years old. The students struggle to form their own answers to basic questions such as “What do you do on a weekday?” The class typically has 17 students. Classes are weekly on Sundays.
Dicky Tsering Home: This orphanage has around 127 students, and the students we teach are girls that range from 10 - 15 years old. Classes are weekly on Friday nights.
